BlackBerry Priv sales will not disclose but the hardware business continues to struggle

The last is a device that a company once synonymous with corporate smartphone technology to appeal to the mass market and win customers strive to build - BlackBerry Priv, which began late last fall, a Hail Mary was passed.

Unfortunately, as investors that plan does not work out as well as the remaining handful of enthusiasts may like or Blackberry.

It just 600,000 units in the last quarter of its fiscal year, moved - - well below the 850,000 Wall Street had been expecting and 700K devices it sold last quarter in its Q4 conference call yesterday that his Blackberry phone sales admitted to.

While BlackBerry has not disclosed how many of those devices were privs BB10 products as compared to the second, BB10 operating system is being treated as essentially dead.

BB10 version of the Facebook application as Cal was dead; Using a web-based application for Facebook users are being directed to. BlackBerry BB10 probably long enough to please their corporate customers will continue to support.

But the company has no plans to launch new BB10 devices, and already called BB10 OS update for the future adoption of Qt 5 or have no plans to add additional capabilities, with complete security and privacy updates will focus on.

Priv We suspect that these days accounts for most of the sales of the BlackBerry, but the phone's high price ($ 650 as of this writing) a vertically against other top-end devices have to be asked.

Prim's hardware specs are fully respected - Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 two CPU, RAM, 3 GB, and $ 649 for a solid open at places like Walmart 2560x1440 5.43-inch screen with a Qualcomm uses 808 Snapdragon SoC.

The problem is that the Samsung Galaxy S7 better overall performance, with a faster GPU and CPU is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core SoC, RAM, advanced 14nm manufacturing technology, 4GB (for 20nm Snapdragon compared with 808), and a much better camera - all for $ 675 unlocked.

Priv screen is slightly larger, but Samsung gains unless you already have a BlackBerry enthusiast or a die-hard lover of physical keyboards were not enough ....

BlackBerry is in no immediate danger, and CEO John Chen still believes the phone business profits can return later in the year. Is very much an open question whether it is right - BlackBerry 2016 Total revenues for the fiscal year to $ 2.1 billion, down from $ 3.3 billion in fiscal year 2015 fell Seeking.

Alpha notes a healthy balance sheet means that "Blackberry still a huge runway to pursue its turnaround efforts, "and that's true - but it is also important to note that to date, the BlackBerry company's turnaround efforts just need fruit, then design and smart phones not yielded deserve to be in the business of selling.
